Celebrate Earth Day!
Tuesday, April 22, 2014 (aka 2 days from now) is Earth Day! Ironically, living in New York City for so many years has made me so much more appreciative of nature and the environment. Urban life is definitely the life for me with 24/7 action and excitement, but there's nothing like stepping off 5th avenue into the oasis of Central Park for a moment of peace in a world of chaos. I soak in the cherry blossom trees, appreciate every bloom of spring, and now see April rainstorms as the pathway to the luscious green landscapes that I took for granted as a kid growing up in a suburban neighborhood. While, I wouldn't describe my everyday life as particularly green or environmentally cautious, I want to take a minute to appreciate my planet by planting a tree. The best part? Planting this tree involves buying a pair of adorable sneakers. Shopping to help the environment? My kind of philanthropy...
Inkkas Shoes is a company made up of dreamers "who wander through the world finding the most beautiful local patterns." Inkkas then works with local artists to translate these authentic designs into the coolest kicks around. Committed to repopulating the earth's forests, Inkkas recently partnered with Trees for the Future to launch the One Shoe One Tree Project, promising to plant one tree for every pair of shoes sold. Did I mention how cute they are? They come in a variety of vibrant patterns and styles from high top (my fave) to the most current trend in comfy footwear: the slip on. In addition to women's styles, Inkkas also offers amazing collections for kids and men, so make it a family affair!
I spent a rainy April afternoon galavanting around Carl Schurz Park in my new Inkkas, dreaming of many gorgeous, green days ahead! What else am I wearing?
